Building Information Modeling

BTA is your source for information and leadership in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Over the past six years, BTA has incorporated and implemented BIM capabilities into our project development and design methodology. All of BTA’s new projects are created with BIM-enabled software and take advantage of advanced BIM features whenever applicable.

BTA has two Autodesk-Certified Professionals in Revit Architecture 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 (one of the leading BIM software platforms). They are part of a select group nationally, and the only two professionals within a 300-hundred mile radius of Pensacola, Florida to achieve this highest level of certification through direct testing and observation by Autodesk Inc. These individuals reinforce and support our commitment to implementing BIM into our practice by continuously updating our comprehensive staff training curriculum, and by formally improving BIM comprehension and capabilities within the firm’s technical staff. Mandatory weekly training sessions, geared to all staff levels including project managers, are held to assure that Building Information Modeling capabilities are maintained and further integrated into the firm’s daily production capabilities and those of our consultants. Our team also collaborates with contractors in their use of BIM during construction.

BTA has also invested in professional training for Bentley Architecture (another leading BIM software platform), Navisworks (overall project coordination), and Ecotect (analysis software for energy and performance studies).

BTA is not a proponent of “BIM Washing,” (i.e. representing BIM capabilities without having made a dedicated and concerted effort to develop this expertise, or using outdated technology and/or methodology to achieve a “semi-bim” solution). BTA’s credentials are comprehensive proof that our team is trained in the latest BIM technology, and that our team has developed best practices to anticipate our clients’ changing needs. BTA is well-positioned to take advantage of this technology as it continues to rapidly evolve. For our clients, this means that “we are not learning BIM on their project.”

Bottom: This image from Navisworks (an overall project coordination software program) of the ADAL Special Operations School Facility at Hurlburt Field, FL illustrates selected building systems. In the view above, structural elements, mechanical ductwork and piping and plumbing components are shown in their true relationships. The Navisworks program is used for clash detection/avoidance and is a component of BIM 4D simulation (scheduling). The 3D building components in the Navisworks model can be directly linked to the contractor's construction schedule. This allows construction to be simulated and animated in real time and is used to identify conflicts in schedule prior to and during construction.
